Purpose of the New Generation Network Promotion Forum

The expansion of broadband environments and the advancement and diversification of information communication services have made information communication networks an indispensable social infrastructure that supports the very foundation of our social and economic activities. The networks will continue to serve as the basis for building a safe and secure society and creating new industries. While studies are underway with a view to further sophistication of IP networks, there is a growing call for pioneering activities to develop a new generation network (NWGN) based on new design concepts and technologies that look beyond the era of IP networks.

This situation has made it a pressing issue for Japan to accelerate research and development for realization of a NWGN which would help to strengthen our technological capability and international contributions. Given the vital need to promote collaboration between industry, academia and government, bring together the knowledge covering a wide range of areas, and develop strategic approaches, we established a “New Generation Network Promotion Forum”

We encourage parties representing industry, academia and government, including telecommunications carriers, manufacturer and academic experts, to participate in the “all-Japan formation forum” to drive the activities needed for realization of the NWGN.

The Forum will study the NWGN by gathering knowledge and expertise from a wide range of areas, free of the constraints of existing technologies, and will spearhead strategic and comprehensive research and development. We are committed to playing a pioneering and leadership role in worldwide efforts toward realization of the NWGN.
